In the article the author analyzes the early work of the Russian historian S. M. Solovyov «Paris University», in which he presented his scientific and pedagogical position. The author focuses on the study of Solovyov’s views on the role of universities and University education in public life, on the nature and peculiarities of the teaching activity of the university professor.
