CHARACTERISTICS AND INFORMATION FIELD OF V.W. VON WAHL’S PERSONAL FUNDS (1840-1915)
The article presents an overview of archival documents of Viktor W. von Wahl, a statesman of the Russian Empire in the second half of the XIX century. There are not so many works devoted to the life and work of V.W. von Wahl at the moment. Despite the fact that von Wahl’s career path was very interesting and we have at our disposal three personal funds of Viktor W., which have not yet been sufficiently introduced into scientific circulation, which are of undoubted interest to researchers. In order to attract the interest of historians and researchers to the personality of V.W. von Wahl, his official activities, career achievements, as well as to the private side of life, I have attempted to present a brief overview of the personal funds of V.W. von Wahl. To achieve the goals and objectives set by me, the method of analysis and synthesis, comparative historical and statistical methods, including the principles of objectivity, consistency and historicism, were used. In the process of writing the article and researching the database of the SARF, the RSHA and the collections of the Russian National Library, a set of documents stored in these archives, affecting various aspects of the life and work of V.W. von Wahl was analyzed. The analysis of V.W. von Wahl’s personal funds made it possible to divide the available documents into several thematic groups (sources of personal origin; deferred during official activity; documents saved by von Wahl, for a reason unknown to us). A review of V.W. von Wahl’s personal funds makes it possible to characterize not only the personality and official activities of V.W. von Wahl, but also to consecrate the issues of the revolutionary movement in the Russian Empire during the designated period, the Polish uprising of 1863-1864, the administrative structure of the Russian provinces.
