HISTORICAL AND POLITICAL PREconditionS FOR THE RESTORATION
 OF THE PRIDNESTROVIAN STATEHOOD

The formation of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, which has been proving its worth to the world community for more than 33 years, was facilitated by historical and political preconditions, which were especially clearly expressed in the situation that emerged by the end of the 1980s. throughout the territory of the Soviet state. The article deals with the consequences of the all-Union crisis, which resulted in the appearance of self-proclaimed state formations, including the PMR. Particular attention in the study is paid to the analysis of socio-political processes that took place in 1988-1991 in the MSSR and the newly formed Pridnestrovian Republic: the policies of the national-bureaucratic elites of the MSSR, who saw in perestroika the chances of quickly getting rich by robbing their own republic and people; the revival of Moldovan-Romanian national-radical circles, which propagated separatist anti-state sentiments and played the role of the main irritants of the socio-political situation in Soviet Moldavia; the struggle of the forces opposing them in the person of the Unitate-Editstvo inter-movement, some of whose leaders later became the founding fathers of the PMR. The work also covers in detail the stages of formation of self-determined Pridnestrovian statehood, recreated as a result of the popular expression of will through referendums and congresses of deputies of all levels of Pridnestrovie.

Key words: crisis of Soviet statehood, national-radical movement in the MSSR, referendums, congresses of deputies of all levels, Pridnestrovians, Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic.
