TOPOGRAPHY AND LAND MANAGEMENT IN KIEV CULTURE SETTLEMENTS THE NORTH-EAST OF THE DESNA RIVER REGION (PROBLEM STATEMENT)
In this article the problems of interrelation between the nature and society at the epoch of appearance of agriculture in the Middle Desna region. Under the archaeological sources it became clear that the choosing of places for settlements of “Kiev culture” of the end of the 2th –the end of the 5th centuries A.C. depended on the economy’s conditions. The settlements are located on the low terraces of Desna –river and it’s tributaries and on the elevations in the flood -plains.
This fact was determinate by the flood –plain’s tillage with the employment of the wooden on the whole plough (“ralo”).Several examples of such a type of plough were discovered in the former marshes on the south of Bryansk and the north of Chernigov regions. With the help of radio –carbon method some of the finds were dated as the 3th – 4th centuries A. C. –the period of “Kiev culture”. The flood – plain’s tillage was accomplished by the “fire –cutting” agriculture in higher parts of landscape and the cattle-breeding – very suitable for the flood –plains type of economy.
