FORMATION OF JESUIT MISSION AT MICMAC OF NEW FRANCE

IN FIRST HALF OF 17th-CENTURY

The American Indian people of Micmac became the first, come into contact (trading and political) with the French colonists at the Atlantic coast of northern America (in Acadia). It has predetermined also their early attempts of christianizing from outside the French latin church, and, first of all, members of the Society of Jesus (jesuits), avant-guard of missionary movement of early Modern time. In first half 17th-century, in formation of the French colonial system in the North America, the Micmacs played the important role of intermediaries between coastal nations and the people of internal Canada that did by their main objects of missionary efforts, but in process of colonisation advancement deep into continent value of Micmacs for the French colony fell and together with it jesuit presence was reduced to their territories
