INDUSTRIAL FISHERY OF THE NORTHERN SELKUPS: TO THE HISTORY OF FORMATION

The author’s interest in the development of industrial fishing in the northern Selkups was caused by two points related to Selkup fishing. Firstly, the establishment of Selkup industrial fisheries was part of an inherently energetic process for the development of Arctic lands by the northern peoples, the technological adaptation of their traditional culture to the extremely harsh natural conditions of the Arctic. Secondly, the establishment of Selkup industrial fisheries was coordinated with the beginning of the use of a motor engine working on coal and oil products in the Selkup economy and, according to the energy concept of culture [15], represented a leap in the development of Selkup culture. The author examines the formation of the fishing industry in the northern Selkups in detail, referring to the history of Selkup fishing.
